It is interesting how the Lord teaches us what he expects of us. In my reading this morning I have been studying Hosea and how God is telling them (Israel) that because of their iniquity and continual rejecting of him as God that he will show no mercy on them. Their rejection of him has caused him to say "you are not my people." Now we know that Israel is God's chosen people but they have rejected him as Lord and Savior and therefore he has rejected them.
In chapter 4:6 "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge". God expects us the know who he is and what he expects of us. Chapter 10:12 he says "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the Lord..." One of God's main principles is that we will reap what we sow. If we so in righteousness then we will reap in righteousness. If we sow in wickedness we will reap iniquity. They were reaping iniquity because they were not looking to the LORD as their God but they were looking to their flocks and herds (their wealth) as their security.
How much are we like them. We look to our bank accounts, our houses, cars and stuff as our security and not really rely on God.
Please take a close look as what it is You are relying on this season. Is it what God has given you or is it He who has given you all things.
This then led me to Romans 11:29 which says "For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance." The way I see it is God has called and equipped us to do a work that would fulfill his will. We are not to turn away from our calling of God and we are not to ignore our gifts. Since God changes not he expects us to use these gifts and fulfill our purpose as his people.
This commission and equipping is "irrevocable" meaning that we will be judged by what we do with what God has given us. Let us not be destroyed for lack of knowledge of what God has given us and what he expects of us.
Consider today who God is, what he has called and equipped you to do, for his honor and glory.
Remember I Corinthians 2:9 "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."
